In a decision released on January 19, 2024, the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (OPSDT) of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) found that Dr. Caroline Anne Turek had made unprofessional comments on social media and other online forums about the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a decision released on November 20, 2023, the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (OPSDT) of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) found that Dr. Javad Peirovy failed to comply with 2016 practice restrictions arising from the sexual abuse of 4 patients.
On October 6, 2023, the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (OPSDT) of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) found that Dr. Mark Raymond Trozzi, a physician from northern Ontario, had made misleading, incorrect or inflammatory statements about vaccinations, treatments and public health measures for COVID-19 in social media postings on his website and in interviews.
On September 1, 2023, the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (“OPSDT”) ordered an 18 month medical license suspension against a general surgeon, Dr. Biagio Iannantuono for taking advantage of his position at a hospital to arrange for a female ultrasound technician (“Ms. X”) to perform an intimate procedure on him in an inappropriate manner.
On August 24, 2023, the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (“OPSDT”) ordered a 5 month medical license suspension to a family doctor, Dr. Sadiqa Karim, because she accessed Ontario healthcare services for herself while living out of country over a period of three years.
On July 14, 2023, the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (“OPSDT”) revoked the medical license of Dr. Patrick Brian Philips for statements made online about the COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Philips was a family and emergency medicine doctor who practiced in Northern Ontario. This decision comes a week after another physician, Dr. Crystal Luchiw, was ordered to be disciplined by the OPSDT for failing to cooperate in an investigation into her COVID-19 vaccine exemption practice.
On July 13, 2023, the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (“OPSDT”) revoked the medical license of Dr. Albert Kadri, a nephrologist from Windsor, in addition to ordering him to pay $250,510 in costs as a result of a previous finding that he had committed professional misconduct and that he was incompetent.
On July 6, 2023, the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (“OPSDT”) determined that Dr. Crystal Luchkiw, a family physician from the Barrie area, had engaged in disgraceful, dishonorable or unprofessional conduct for refusing to co-operate with the investigations of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (the “College”) into her practice of exempting patients from the COVID-19 vaccine.
In late 2019, Dr. Raymond Stein, a clinical immunologist and a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) for over 40 years, crossed professional boundaries, verbally and physically, with a longstanding patient. During the CPSO’s investigation the following year, Dr. Stein attempted to bully an acquaintance into providing a false alibi to help exonerate him at the CPSO.
